The Service Decoration Cross for Officers was instituted on 29 October 1847 by Duke Henry of Anhalt-Köthen, together with the Service Decoration Clasp for Non-Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks.
The cross could be awarded to all impeccably serving officers of the Köthen military after 25 years of service. Service periods in foreign military service were not counted.
The badge is an eight-pointed Maltese cross made of gilded bronze. In the center of the white-enamelled medallion is the gold initial H (Henry), surmounted by a ducal crown. On the reverse are the Roman numerals XXV.
The decoration was worn on a light green ribbon on the left breast.
On 17 April 1855, following the union into the Duchy of Anhalt, the award was discontinued by decree of Duke Leopold IV Frederick.
