The Frederick-Louise Medal [Friedrich-Luisen-Medaille] was instituted on 9 September 1906 by Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden and could be awarded to anyone who had rendered meritorious service in the field of public welfare.
The round medal was made of gilded bronze and depicts the busts of its founder and his wife, Luise Marie Elisabeth of Prussia, facing right. On the reverse are the two diagonally placed coats of arms of Baden (left) and Prussia (right), surmounted by a crown. Between the two coats of arms is a rose, and below them are the years 1856–1906 and the date 20 September, the couple’s wedding day.
The decoration was worn on the left breast on a yellow ribbon with red side stripes and white edging. Women wore the decoration on a ladies’ bow.
