The Honorary Star of 1830 was instituted by the Belgian Provisional Government to thank those who had worked for the Belgian Revolution and for Belgium’s independence. Only acts carried out before 1 September 1830 were taken into consideration. It had three classes. It was instituted by decree of the Provisional Government on 14 January 1831. This distinction was disavowed by a law of 28 May 1831, intended to protect the government in office from any claims for payments connected with the decoration, which was quickly replaced by the Iron Cross. Although the insignia were made, they were never awarded. A few examples remain in the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces.
