The Medal for Participation in the Balkan Wars 1912–1913 (Медал за участие в Балканските войни 1912 – 1913) was a special commemorative medal of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, dedicated to participation in the Balkan Wars. It was established by Supreme Decree No. 9 of 1933, which also established the Medal for Participation in the European War (1915–1918).
It was awarded to military personnel for “deeds and merits” while serving in the Bulgarian Army during the Balkan Wars. It was also awarded to people who had made special contributions, such as volunteers, orderlies, civilian doctors, nurses, journalists, and others. The medal was also received by relatives of those killed in the war’s battles, as well as by foreigners who met the above conditions.
The obverse of the medal depicts the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, surrounded by laurel and oak branches and placed on two crossed swords with their points facing upward. The reverse depicts the years “1912–1913” and a wreath of wheat, laurel, and oak leaves, symbolizing Moesia, Macedonia, and Thrace.
