The Emirate (Kingdom) of Bahrain became independent in 1971. The Emir, Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, then established the Order of the Khalifiyyeh of Bahrain (Arabic: Wisam al-Khalifiyyeh al Bahrein).
The Khalifiyyeh are the ruling family.
The badge is an eight-pointed star. Only the Grand Cross has a raised element in the shape of a golden crescent. The medallion bears a portrait of the Emir dressed in a burnous. Eight crescents and eight pearls are mounted on the star. Bahrain is renowned for its pearl fishing. The order has four classes.
The ribbon is red with a broad white-black-white stripe down the middle.
