The Osório Medal—The Legendary (Medalha Osório - O Legendário) is a Brazilian honorary decoration.
It was instituted by Decree No. 6,618 of October 23, 2008, and regulated by Ordinance No. 957 of December 10, 2008, issued by the Commander of the Army.
The Marshal Osório Medal—The Legendary (Medalha Marechal Osório - O Legendário) received this name in honor of Marshal Osório, Marquis of Herval, who revealed himself on the battlefield as a leader who inspired fascination through his courage and physical splendor and who, by his example, roused and led his subordinates. He possessed all the physical and moral qualities that inspire armies in the frenzy of combat: a proud bearing and martial expression; he was intrepid without being reckless.
It is intended to reward Army military personnel who, demonstrating excellent professional performance and irreproachable civil and military conduct, have distinguished themselves through exceptional physical fitness, demonstrated by the results of successive physical fitness tests (TAF), or through participation as members of sports teams in national or international competitions.
