The “Friend of the Navy” Medal (Medalha “Amigo da Marinha”) was created in August 1966 to honor civilian personalities with no employment affiliation with the Brazilian Navy, military personnel from other forces, as well as institutions that have distinguished themselves in promoting maritime awareness, in their relations with the Navy, in defending interests related to the Navy, and in publicizing the importance of the sea to the country.
