The Order of the Sun of Alexander (Iskandar Solis; “Sun of Alexander”) was established in Bukhara in 1894 or 1898 by Emir Abdulahad Khan. The order was created on the model of orders of the Russian Empire. It was considered the third-largest and highest-ranking order of the Emirate of Bukhara, after Bukhara-i Sharif and the Order of the Crown of the State of Bukhara. The order was established in memory of Emperor Alexander III, and for that reason only high-ranking Russian officials were awarded it. In his work “History of the Grief of the People of Bukhara,” Emir Alim Khan noted that the “Iskandar Solis” badge was the most important badge and that officials and military officers were awarded it.
