The Order of the Green Crescent [Ordre du Croissant vert] is a Comorian honorary order that was established on 3 December 1965 by President Saïd Mohamed Cheikh (Decree No. 1354 PR-C).
Saïd Mohamed Cheikh entrusted Ahmad Quamar al-Din, known for his drawing skills, with designing the model for this medal.
The Green Crescent decoration of the Comoros consists of a green escarbuncle from which spring eight golden rays, each formed of six grouped rays, joined near the escarbuncle by a palm crown passing alternately above and below the rays.
It rewards distinguished military or civilian merit rendered to the Comorian archipelago. It replaces former ministerial and colonial orders.
It also comprises three grades: Knight, Officer and Commander, and two dignities: Grand Officer and Grand Cross.
The President of the Union is the Grand Master of the Order of the Green Crescent, while the Vice Presidents and the Grand Chancellor of the National Orders are elevated by the President of the Union to the dignity of Grand Cross of the Order of the Green Crescent.
