The Annen Medal (Annen-Medaille) is a decoration of the Free State of Saxony. It was instituted by the Saxon State Government in 1995 in memory of the charitable Electress Anna of Saxony (1532–1585), known as “Mother Anna.”
It is awarded to people “who serve the community in Saxony to an above-average degree, who inspire and encourage other citizens through their commitment, and who help, support and promote them.”
Made of Meissen porcelain, the white Annen Medal bears on the front a relief of the Electress, the years 1532 and 1585, and the inscription Electress Anna of Saxony below, together with the inscription HELP, CARE, PROMOTE around the upper edge. On the reverse is a relief of two embracing hands with five heads above, the Saxon coat of arms in the middle and the Meissen swords below, together with the inscription LIVE TOGETHER • SOCIAL SAXONY • BE THERE FOR ONE ANOTHER around the edge.
