The Honor Cross for 1814 (Ehrenkreuz für 1814) was established on October 30, 1814, by the Governor-General of the city of Frankfurt am Main, Heinrich XIII. It could be awarded to Frankfurt officers who had distinguished themselves in the War of Liberation in 1814.
The insignia is a bronze cross, on whose three upper arms the initials A I (Alexander I), F I (Francis I) and F W (Frederick William) appear, from left to right. The year 1814 is on the lower arm. The cross’s oval medallion bears the inscription DEUTSCH LAND, and its reverse bears H XIII R G.
The award was worn on a 42 mm-wide black-white-yellow-white-orange ribbon (the colors of Russia, Austria and Prussia).
