The Army, Naval and Air Medal is Spain’s highest decoration in peacetime.
Its regulations were amended by Royal Decree 1040/2003 of 1 August (Official Gazette of the Ministry of Defence, No. 177). It is awarded only in very exceptional circumstances. It is intended to reward those who, with outstanding military and professional virtues, carry out distinguished actions or deeds while performing duties assigned to the Armed Forces, whether in the ordinary or extraordinary course of their work, provided that the action or deed takes place in situations other than those occurring during armed conflicts or military operations involving, or potentially involving, the use of armed force.
