The Civil Order of Environmental Merit [Orden Civil del Mérito Medioambiental] is a Spanish civil distinction. It is intended to reward individuals and entities for outstanding services or notable actions in the conservation of nature and the protection of natural heritage and biodiversity, the fight against climate change, environmental quality, the defense and promotion of the sustainability of marine and inland water resources, and, in general, the defense of the environment. This order was created by Royal Decree 1036/2009 of June 29, which established the Civil Order of Environmental Merit. This regulation is supplemented by Order ARM 3085/2009 of the Ministry of the Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs (later the Ministry for Ecological Transition), dated November 13, approving the Regulations of the Civil Order of Environmental Merit.
