The Victor [Víctor], also called the Victorious or the Symbol of Victory, was a decoration awarded by the SEU, the Spanish University Syndicate. It is an anagram containing all the letters of the word “víctor”, topped with a laurel wreath. According to the Regulations on Rewards of 11 March 1952, the decoration was awarded for four types of merit, distinguished by the colour of the ribbon from which it hangs:
“Services to the SEU”, on a sky-blue ribbon.
“For professional merit”, on a red ribbon.
“For sporting merit”, on a green ribbon.
“For military merit”, on a mahogany-blue ribbon.
In addition, there were three grades, distinguished in turn by the gold, silver, or bronze colour of the metal:
Extraordinary, consisting of the “Golden Victor”.
First class, consisting of the “Silver Victor”.
Second class, consisting of the “Bronze Victor”.
The dates of 21 November (the anniversary of the founding of the Service) and 7 March (Saint Thomas Aquinas) were reserved for the awarding of the Silver and Bronze Victors, respectively.
