The UNIFIL commemorative medal, or commemorative medal of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, was established in March 1978 to monitor the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, restore peace and security, and assist the Government of Lebanon in ensuring the effective return of authority to the area. To date, the mission is still ongoing. A distinction was created to commemorate their action.
