The Mines Medal was established by Decree No. 953-333 of 14 April 1953 and has been awarded by order of the Regional Prefect since 1970. Since 2025, it has been called the Mines, Industry and Energy Medal, and its scope of eligibility has been expanded to better reward merit in the industrial and energy sectors. It is now awarded by the Minister responsible for industry.
