The Regional, Departmental and Municipal Medal of Honor (Médaille d’honneur régionale, départementale et communale) is a French civil decoration created by decree of 22 July 1987 to reward long-standing honorable service performed for a regional, departmental or municipal authority.
Awarded by the Ministry of the Interior, it replaces the former Departmental and Municipal Medal of Honor, created in 1945. Its creation resulted from the new status of the regions and of the territorial civil service arising from the Defferre Law of 2 March 1982, known as the “first act” of decentralization.
