The Police (Special Duty) Medal (Hindi: Police (Difficult Service) Medal) is a military state award of India, established to recognize police personnel serving in conditions of exceptional hardship and severe climate. The award was established by Presidential Secretariat Order No. 30-Pres/62 of 23 February 1962, with retroactive effect from 1 January 1959. The medal is awarded for service in remote and extreme regions of the country, including the Himalayas, desert zones and the northeastern states. Unlike centrally administered awards, the medal is not produced according to a single standard and may be manufactured locally, resulting in variations in design and quality.
