On 9 April 1953, Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg married Princess Joséphine-Charlotte, daughter of King Leopold III of Belgium.
The Grand Duchy instituted a commemorative medal, the “Commemorative Medal on the Occasion of the Wedding of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Jean and Princess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg,” which was awarded to the courtiers concerned, army officers and guests.
The decoration was one of the decorations of Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands; see the List of decorations of Bernhard of Lippe-Biesterfeld.
