The Order of Merit of Madagascar (Ordre du Mérite) is a Malagasy order of honour and a former French colonial order, instituted on 14 May 1901 by Joseph Gallieni. Initially awarded from its establishment for services rendered to the French cause, as well as to agriculture, commerce and industry by the indigenous populations of Madagascar and its dependencies, and from 1 December 1952 to all persons residing or having resided for at least five years in Madagascar and its dependencies, since 1959 it has rewarded distinguished military or civil merit rendered to the Malagasy nation.
It is the second Malagasy order in order of precedence, after the Malagasy National Order and before the Honours (awarded since 1817), the Medal of Labour, Agricultural Merit, Sports Merit, the Medal of Honour of Posts and Telecommunications, the Medal of Honour of the National Railway Network and Artisan Merit.
