The Military Medal for Bravery and Merit during the 1790 Revolt in the Austrian Netherlands [Militaire Medaille voor Dapperheid en Verdienste tijdens de Opstand van 1790 in de Oostenrijkse Nederlanden] (German: Militär-Verdienstmedaille für Tapferkeit während des Aufstandes 1790 in den Österreichischen Niederlanden) was an Austrian decoration instituted in 1790 by Emperor Joseph II.
In 1790 the population of Brabant and the other Southern or Austrian Netherlands revolted against Habsburg rule. This Brabant Revolution was suppressed by military force. Military personnel from the Duchy of Limburg, which was partly Habsburg territory, were also deployed for this purpose.
The round silver medal has a serrated edge. On the obverse, beneath two arms emerging from two clouds and clasping hands, is the Latin text “FIDES ET CONSTANTIA PATRII MILITIS”. Below it are a palm branch and a laurel wreath. On the reverse, beneath two cornucopias, is “PAX ET SECVRITAS PVBLICA” above four standards, with a laurel wreath at the point where they cross.
