The Prince Maurice Medal (Prins Mauritsmedaille) is a private award for merit instituted on 6 July 1935 by the Royal Netherlands Association “Our Army” (Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging ‘Ons Leger’), and named after Maurice of Orange.
The award is presented to individuals or organizations, both within and outside the armed forces, who have rendered meritorious service to the Dutch armed forces.
Initially, the medal was presented as a wearable medal to military personnel and as a medal token to civilians, for special contributions to the Royal Netherlands Army or for exceptional efforts to increase knowledge of Dutch military history. Since 1984, the award has been presented only as a wearable medal, with the medal token discontinued.
The medal is silver, 35 millimeters in diameter, and features a bust of Prince Maurice on the obverse. The accompanying ribbon is orange, with broad Nassau-blue and white stripes on either side, the blue stripes being on the outer edges.
The Prince Maurice Medal is a rare and prestigious award.
