The Government Memorial Medal for Efforts during World War II (Regjeringens minnemedalje for innsats under andre verdenskrig), “Thank you for your efforts 1939–45” (Takk for din innsats 1939–45), is a Norwegian medal.
The medal was created in connection with the 2015 commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation after World War II. Initially, the medal was to be awarded only during the jubilee year, but the scheme was continued in the following years. As of 2017, approximately 1,100 people had been awarded the memorial medal.
The medal may be awarded to “Norwegian and foreign military personnel [including the merchant fleet] and civilians in recognition of their efforts during World War II,” provided that the person “contributed to the fight against the Axis powers or supported civil society.” The municipalities are responsible for drawing up lists of people who meet the criteria, and these lists form the basis for the relevant County Governor’s decision on the award on behalf of the state. The medal is not awarded posthumously, and it may not be worn on a uniform.
