The Hejaz Railway Medal (Hicaz Demiryolu Madalyası) was a medal established for people who had rendered services in connection with the Hejaz Railway and provided financial assistance. Issued under the 1902 regulations, the medal bears the inscription “This is a medal for benefactors who have served the Hamidiye Hejaz Railway” on one side, and a tughra with a locomotive beneath it on the other. The medal comes in three types: gold, silver, and nickel. The nickel medal was awarded to those who donated from 5 to 50 gold pieces, the silver medal to those who donated from 50 to 100 gold pieces, and the gold medal to those who donated more than 100 gold pieces. The medals were worn on the left side of the chest, suspended from a green ribbon. Their sizes ranged from 26 to 500 mm. Most of the medals bear the date 1318. Medals dated 1322 were also made to commemorate the line’s reaching Ma'an, and medals dated 1326 to commemorate its reaching Medina. The ribbon was red; green stripes were also added to distinguish those who had made larger donations.
