The Order of Arts and Letters (Orden de las Artes y las Letras) is a civil distinction awarded by the Government of Peru, through its Ministry of Culture, to creators, artists, individuals and organizations, national or foreign, who contribute to the country's cultural development.
This order was created by Supreme Resolution No. 011-2010-MC, which states that the public recognition entailed by the awarding of this distinction is an appropriate way to express the gratitude of the nation and the government for outstanding achievement in the cultural sphere.
The regulations governing the procedure for awarding this decoration, approved by Ministerial Resolution No. 076-2010-MC, state that the Order comprises all the people who have received it in recognition of their achievements, and that it will be awarded every two years or in exceptional cases when the occasion warrants it.
