Order Of The Defense Of The Fatherland

The Order of the Defense of the Fatherland (Apărarea Patriei) was established by Decree No. 308 P-MAN on 23 July 1949. The establishment was published in Official Bulletin No. 49. The Order could be awarded to military and civilian persons of Romanian or foreign nationality. It rewarded exceptional achievements in the political and scientific fields, recognized military achievements in organization and troop command, and was generally awarded in recognition of services in the defense of Romania. It was conferred at the initiative of the State Council.
