The Order of Scientific Merit (Ordinul „Meritul Științific”) was an award conferred for outstanding achievements in the scientific field. It was established in 1966 by Decree No. 737/1966 of the State Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania.
The order had three classes and was accompanied by the Medal of Scientific Merit.
The order and medal were discontinued in 2000 through repeal, pursuant to Law 29/2000. At present, achievements for which they were awarded may be recognized through the Order of Cultural Merit.
