The Medal to the Deputies of the Legislative Commission [Медаль «Депутатам уложенной комиссии»] was a medal (badge) of the Russian Empire, established by Catherine II in 1766 for members of the Legislative Commission.
The Empress’s decree stated: “So that a member of the commission for drafting the Code may be recognized, they are all to wear identical badges, designated by Us for this purpose, which will remain theirs for life. Noble deputies, however, may place these badges in their coats of arms after this work is completed, but not before, so that their descendants may know in what great undertaking they took part.”
The medal was made of gold and suspended from a chain of the same metal; it was relatively expensive for the time, costing 67 rubles and 89 kopecks. One side of the medal bore the monogram of Catherine II. The other side showed a pyramid, symbolizing the law, crowned with the Great Crown of the Russian Empire. The inscription around the edge read: “The Bliss of Each and All.” The inscription at the bottom read: “December 14, 1766.” The medal was awarded to 652 people at a session held on August 9, 1767, in Moscow.
