The Badge of Distinction of the First Kuban Campaign (Знак отличия Первого Кубанского похода) was an award from the Russian Civil War era. This badge entered the history of the White Movement as its most respected and revered award.
It was established on 21 September (4 October) 1918 by order of the commander of the Volunteer Army, Lieutenant General A. I. Denikin, in memory of the First Kuban (Ice) Campaign, to be awarded to all actual participants in the campaign (it had two classes).
The Badge of Distinction of the First Kuban Campaign consisted of a silver wreath of thorns (a symbol of martyrdom), crossed from bottom to top by a silver sword with a gilded hilt (the sword was sometimes gilded in its entirety). Its serial number was placed on the reverse. The first-class badge was awarded to direct participants in combat (including nurses and medical orderlies who aided the wounded on the battlefield) and was worn on the ribbon of the Order of St. George, adorned with a white-blue-red rosette (the national colors of Russia).
