The first award of merit was presented on 4 June 1948 to County Governor Malte Jacobsson. The first ten awards went to Malte Jacobsson, Liseberg manager Herman Lindholm, physician Olof Forselius, provost Karl Ahlberg (1875–1951), nurse Anna Andersson, Consul General Henning Beyer (1884–1948), municipal workers’ foreman Johan Blomberg, Bertha Burman-Andersson (1870–1957), manager Einar Carlbring (1880–1970) and tramway worker C. R. Carlsson. A further 35 awards of merit were presented on this first occasion.
