The Joint Service Achievement Medal is an Achievement Medal of the United States Armed Forces, awarded for military merit to junior officers and enlisted personnel when the Joint Service Commendation Medal is not applicable.
All the military branches have their own Achievement Medal; the Joint Service Achievement Medal is intended for joint military service and is awarded by the United States Department of Defense.
The first Achievement Medals were established by the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard in 1961. The Joint Service Achievement Medal has existed since 1983.
Multiple awards are represented by gold or silver oak leaf clusters.
In the Order of Precedence, Achievement Medals rank below Commendation Medals, such as the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and above the Commandant’s Letter of Commendation and Combat Action Ribbons.
