The Order of Honorable Service is a type of decoration of the State of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam), established under the Ordinance of September 12, 1961, of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and promulgated under Decree No. 52/CT of September 16, 1961, by the President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Under the Law on Emulation and Commendation (promulgated on November 26, 2003), the Order of Honorable Service was changed to the Medal of Honorable Service.
The Order of Honorable Service is awarded or posthumously awarded to military personnel who contributed to building the People’s Army of Vietnam after the Resistance War against the French (after July 20, 1954).
The Order of Honorable Service has 3 classes, distinguished by the number of yellow bars on the ribbon and the order’s suspension bar: first class has 3 bars, second class has 2 bars, and third class has 1 bar. The authority to award or posthumously award the Order of Honorable Service is determined by the President.
