The Order of Democracy Simón Bolívar is an official civil honor and distinction awarded by the House of Representatives of Colombia to citizens distinguished for their service to the homeland in any field.
It was created by Resolution 216 of 1980 and, since then, numerous educational institutions and prominent figures from the educational, scientific, military, civil, and political worlds, among others, have received this distinction, which honors the memory of the Liberator Simón Bolívar.
The order was instituted to recognize the effort, loyalty, and virtues of citizens or institutions in support of democracy.
