The Dukla Commemorative Medal was established on 26 June 1959 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the fighting at Dukla by a government decree, to recognize services in the liberation of the Czechoslovak Republic.
It was awarded to living, fallen or deceased members of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps in the USSR who took part in the fighting at Dukla from 8 September to 28 November. To qualify, recipients had to contribute to defeating the enemy and assist Czechoslovak units. It was presented by the President of the Republic.
The medal is made of bronze and measures 35 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick. The obverse depicts two soldiers looking to the right. A laurel wreath surrounds the soldier who wears a helmet and, in the foreground, grips the stock of a submachine gun. The second soldier wears a fur cap. At the top is the inscription “Honor and glory to the heroes of Dukla.” The obverse was designed by Jiří Prádler. The reverse depicts marching soldiers shaking hands. It was artistically designed by Jaroslav Brůha.
