The Medal of Jan Žižka of Trocnov [Medaile Jana Žižky z Trocnova] is a decoration established on 21 October 1918 by the leadership of the Czechoslovak Legions in Yekaterinburg. This made it the first and oldest Czechoslovak decoration.
The medal was intended to be awarded in three grades:
Grade I, with two five-pointed stars on the ribbon (not awarded)
Grade II, with one five-pointed star on a wider ribbon
Grade III, without a star, on a narrower ribbon
The Grade II medal is made of silver and copper sheet joined together by hot rolling, a process known as cladding; the Grade III medal is struck from copper.
The medal was suspended from a so-called “bar suspension”, of which there are two variants:
Variant I: bar length 51 mm
Variant II: bar length 34 mm.
The ribbon is red with two sewn-on black velvet side stripes. The medal’s designer was the Czech sculptor, medallist and legionnaire Karel Babka.
