The Order for Building the Socialist Homeland (Řád budování socialistické vlasti) was the highest Czechoslovak state order, established in 1953, and the predecessor of the Order of Klement Gottwald. The order was established by government decree of February 3, No. 14/1953 Coll.; its presentation was discontinued following the issue of the new decree No. 5/1955 Coll. on the Order of Klement Gottwald, which newly stipulated: “The highest order of the Czechoslovak Republic shall bear the name of Klement Gottwald. The name of the order ‘Order for Building the Socialist Homeland’ is changed to ‘Order of Klement Gottwald – for Building the Socialist Homeland.’” The new order used the original decree (under its statutes, that decree remained in force unchanged alongside the 1955 decree until 1990) and also had the same register.
The insignia of the order were similar to those of the Order of Klement Gottwald, except that the medal set in the center of the star bore the Czech two-tailed lion (the ribbon was completely identical).
