The Ernst Schneller Medal (Ernst-Schneller-Medaille) was the highest award of the Society for Sport and Technology in the German Democratic Republic (GDR), established in 1961 in three classes: bronze, silver and gold. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the GDR on 7 October 1974, an additional gold honorary clasp to the medal was established. The medal was awarded for outstanding service in educating youth for readiness to defend the country; in the GDR it was considered a non-state award.
