The FDJ Combat Mission (Kampfauftrag der FDJ) was a propaganda campaign initiated by the SED and the Free German Youth (FDJ) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) to increase the number of volunteers for the National People's Army (NVA) after the construction of the Berlin Wall. It was issued by the FDJ Central Council on 18 August 1961 and included the call-up “The Fatherland Calls. Protect the Socialist Republic!”, which, citing the purported threat of war, called for the recruitment of young men in the GDR.
