The Hungarian Fire Cross (Tűzkereszt) decoration was established at the end of 1941, continuing earlier military traditions. It was already apparent that the minor and major engagements accompanying the partial revision would be replaced by a total war affecting the entire country, and that expanding the range of awards had become necessary in order to boost the combat morale of the soldiers.
