The Order of Merit of the Red Star (Hungarian: Vörös Csillag Érdemrend) was a military decoration of the Hungarian People’s Republic awarded in 1953–1989.
It could be awarded to soldiers, armed forces formations, schools, the armed corps and law enforcement agencies, as well as civilians, in recognition of merits in the field of protecting the homeland, maintaining public order and improving the standard of the armed corps’ activities.
A total of 1,751 people received it (177 people in 1953–1957, and a further 1,574 people in 1957–1989).
It was worn on a solid dark-red ribbon, similarly to the civilian Order of Merit of Labour.
