The Garibaldian Medal (Medaglia garibaldina) (also known as the Garibaldian Star or, in its three-point version, the Garibaldian Cross) is an award granted to Italian and foreign combatants serving in the Garibaldi Assault Brigades who took part during the Second World War in the national liberation struggle against the German occupation and against the Fascists of the Italian Social Republic. The medal was accompanied by a “Diploma of the Garibaldian Medal” made out in the name of the recipient, issued in 1947 and signed by Pietro Secchia and Luigi Longo, the brigades’ political commissar and commander-in-chief, respectively.
