The commemorative medal for the expedition to Albania (Medaglia commemorativa della spedizione in Albania) is a medal of the Kingdom of Italy instituted by royal decree no. 683 of 7 March 1940 and awarded to personnel of the Expeditionary Corps, to mobilized personnel of the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, to crews of the Merchant Navy, and to militarized personnel and civilians accompanying the troops that had occupied the territory formerly belonging to the Kingdom of Albania in April 1939. The decree left the characteristics of the medal's die to be determined later, while nevertheless establishing the dimensions and color of the medal ribbon. Because of the outbreak of the Second World War, this decree was never issued, and the firms that produced the medals therefore freely interpreted the characteristics to be given to the insignia, without any official endorsement. There are even four versions of the medal, with different features such as suspension by either a clip or a double ring through a hole at the top of the medal.
The establishing decree was repealed in 2010.
