The Medal of Merit for Volunteers of the 1940–45 War (Medaglia di benemerenza per i volontari della Guerra 1940-45) was established by the Italian Government by Legislative Decree No. 1054 of 1948, which extended the award of the Medal of Merit for Volunteers of the Italo-Austrian War of 1915–1918 to all those who had voluntarily enlisted and taken part in the Second World War in a commendable manner.
The establishing measure, ratified in 1953, was repealed in 2010.
