The Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol is an award of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano–South Tyrol. It may be conferred by the provincial government on deserving individuals who reside outside South Tyrol. Special achievements in the fields of science, art, culture, education, sport or business may be recognized, as may meritorious work for social and humanitarian causes and for environmental concerns. It is awarded each year on 5 September, the anniversary of the Treaty of Paris. It was first awarded in 2008. South Tyroleans themselves are honored with the Medal of Merit of the Province of Tyrol, the Tyrolean Life-Saving Medal and the Cross of Merit of the Province of Tyrol, as well as the Decoration of Honour of the Province of Tyrol.
The order is divided into two categories: the Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol and the Grand Order of Merit of the Province of South Tyrol. The number of living holders of the orders is limited to one hundred for the Grand Order of Merit and 150 for the Order of Merit.
