The Commemorative Medal “In Honor of the 2,600th Anniversary of the Empire of Japan” is a medal of the Empire of Japan, established on July 27, 1940, by Decree No. 488 of Emperor Shōwa, which prescribed awarding it to those who ensured the holding of festive events in honor of the 2,600th anniversary of the founding of the Empire of Japan. About 13,000 events were held for this occasion, and as a result the medal is quite common. According to collectors and researchers, this medal is the second most common Japanese medal; the first is the Medal for Participation in the China Incident.
The master medallist was the sculptor Shōkichi Hata.
