The Order of Merit of the Korean Red Cross (Korean: “Taeguk-Jang”) is an exclusive distinction for services to the Red Cross. The First Class is usually awarded to heads of state. The Second Class is for prime ministers, the vice president of the Korean Red Cross, foreign presidents of the Red Cross, and presidents of the International Red Cross.
The inscription on Matts Bergom Larson’s insignia reads “Dae Han Juck Sip Ja Sa” (Korean Red Cross), “Juck Sip Ja” - Dae Jang (Red Cross distinction), Taeguk-Jang (Order of Merit), and Je 7 Ho, which means that this was the seventh time the distinction had been awarded in this grade.
The insignia is a bronze seven-pointed star laid over a smaller seven-pointed star with narrow, needle-shaped rays. The yin-yang symbol and the Cross of Geneva are enamelled. The raised mount and link to the blue ribbon with two golden-yellow stripes are a stylized flower.
