The Medal “For Your Freedom and Ours” (Medal „Za waszą wolność i naszą”) was a Polish state military decoration established by a decree of the Council of State dated 18 October 1956, “... in recognition of the merits of the fighters for the freedom of the Spanish people on the 20th anniversary of the formation of the first Polish units in the Republican Army of Spain...” (in the historiography of the Polish People’s Republic at the time, “the struggle for the freedom of the Spanish people” meant the fighting on the side of government forces—the Republicans, supported by the communist USSR—against the forces of the Spanish nationalists, supported by fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–39).
