The Medal “For Participation in Battles in Defense of People’s Power” (Medal „Za udział w walkach w obronie władzy ludowej”), colloquially the “medal of regime consolidators” (medal utrwalaczy), was a Polish state decoration of the Polish People’s Republic period, awarded to soldiers, militiamen, Security Service employees, and civilians who actively took part in the fighting. Because of the date it was established, it was widely regarded as a medal intended as a reward for those who materially assisted the authorities in pacifying society during martial law and amid the turbulent events of the early 1980s.
