The Honorary Badge “For Merit in Tourism” [Odznaka honorowa „Za Zasługi dla Turystyki”] is a Polish civil departmental decoration in the form of an honorary badge, awarded by the minister responsible for tourism, who until 2007 was the Minister of Economy and is currently (2012) the Minister of Sport and Tourism (from 1998 to 2002, the badge was awarded by the President of the Office of Physical Culture and Tourism).
The badge was established on 27 January 1998 by a regulation of the Council of Ministers to recognize people who had contributed to the development of tourism, and replaced the “Meritorious Tourism Activist” badge. A subsequent regulation, dated 26 August 2002, changed the appearance of the decoration and set out the rules for awarding it that remain in force today.
The badge replaced the former “Meritorious Tourism Activist” Badge, abolished in 1996 along with a number of other decorations established during the period of the Polish People’s Republic.
