The Military Physical Fitness Badge (Wojskowa Odznaka Sprawności Fizycznej, WOSF, colloquially “Woska”) is a badge awarded since 1969 to soldiers of the Polish Army who achieved an overall rating of “very good” or “good” in all physical fitness tests required of them during the school year.
The badge was introduced by Order No. 32/MON of the Minister of National Defence, dated 20 May 1969. Initially, the “Woska” was a single-grade, silver badge. The badge was designed by sculptor and medallist Edward Gorol (1930–2003). The State Mint manufactured the badges.
On 14 December 1970, the Minister of National Defence divided the WOSF into three grades. Badges issued previously automatically became second-grade badges.
The first-grade badge (gold) is a two-level, multicoloured metal emblem; the first level depicts the outline of an athletics track in a sports stadium in gold, with the inscription “WOSF”; the second level depicts fitness in an abstract manner using three soaring arrows in white, green, and red.
